10 Things to Watch Tuesday, April 16 The stock market is trying to regain stability after several bad days as attention turns to generally strong corporate earnings on Tuesday. Here are four ways to deal with volatility at your club. It’s a big beat for Morgan Stanley. Revenue of $15.14 billion exceeded expectations of $14.46 billion, and earnings per share (EPS) of $2.02 exceeded expectations of $1.66. Return on tangible shareholders’ equity is approximately 20%. In club name, trading and investment banking (IB) revenue exceeded expectations. The same was true for Wealth Management (WM), where pre-tax margins were also slightly better than expected. It generated approximately $95 billion in net new assets. Repurchased $1 billion in stock. I need to hear about the WM probe. Bank of America capped off a string of strong quarters for the bank. Revenues beat expectations, and adjusted EPS came in at 83 cents, beating expectations of 76 cents. Return on tangible common capital was 12.7%. Net interest income (NII) exceeded expectations. IB’s revenue exceeded expectations. Good quarter for Johnson & Johnson. Although sales are slightly lower, EPS is higher. Increase the floor of EPS guidance by 5 cents. Organic revenue growth increased by 7.7%. Pharmaceuticals increased by 8.3%, and medical equipment increased by 6.3%. UnitedHealth Group’s earnings are better than feared. Revenue rose nearly 9% to $99.8 billion, topping $99.21 billion, even as the company was still dealing with the effects of a cyberattack on its Change Healthcare subsidiary. The cost rate is better than expected. Adjusted EPS of $6.91 is higher than $6.59. This confirms the full-year forecast. The club’s name, Honeywell, was downgraded from buy to hold by Deutsche Bank, citing slowing growth prospects. This is why CEO Vimal Kapur needs to restructure his portfolio. Barclays double-upgraded Tyson Foods from underweight (sell) to overweight (buy). Evercore ISI will begin coverage of a small number of semifinals. I like everything in the scope except Intel and Qualcomm. The Favors Club names Nvidia and Broadcom, Advanced Micro Devices and Marvell in the parallel processing space, and Texas Instruments, Analog Devices, Microchip Technology and NXP Semiconductors in the Internet of Things. JP Morgan has reiterated Uber, and the club has cited Amazon and Metaplatform as top internet candidates heading into earnings season. Goldman initiates coverage of DraftKings with a buy rating and a price target of $60 per share. Analysts refer to this as compounding returns due to the growth of the Total Addressable Market (TAM) and increased profits.
