Michigan secondary coach Lamar Morgan already has two top safeties in the 2025 freshman class, but the 39-year-old coach is working hard to add even more talented freshmen this season.
The Wolverines have expressed interest in the four-star Kilgore (Texas) cornerback. Jayden SandersThe 6-foot-2, 172-pound player has a 93.8 percent chance of landing, according to the On3 Sports recruiting projection machine. Sanders is rated as the No. 234 overall prospect, the No. 27 cornerback and the No. 33 player from Texas, according to On3’s industry ratings.
According to 247Sports’ Bryce Marich, the list of schools Sanders is still considering recruiting has been narrowed down to five: Michigan, Oklahoma State, Baylor, U of T and Vanderbilt. The Lone Star State native has previously made unofficial visits to Ann Arbor, but Sanders is scheduled to take an official visit to Michigan later this month during the school’s annual “BBQ at the Big House” event. Sanders has previously taken official visits to Oklahoma State (April 12), Baylor (June 7) and Vanderbilt (June 14).
247Sports scouting analyst Gabe Brooks had this to say about Sanders:
“Size unconfirmed, but looks tall and muscular. Instinctive three-phase playmaker with strong football pedigree as the son of a former all-conference cornerback who played for great TCU teams in the late 2000s. Three-sport athlete with experience in basketball and track who displays functional athleticism on the gridiron. Ability to jump up in the open floor and make shots from above the rim. Has produced in all three phases, scoring two special teams TDs as a junior. Vertical shooting threat who stretches the field as a receiver. Big-built cornerback on defense who could fit a big-built boundary cornerback role quite well, but skill set and instincts could also fit an over-the-top safety. Not necessarily a top-end burner, but fast enough with an unconventional gait that he won’t get caught out of his back. A bona fide power four prospect in the secondary. NFL Draft potential with the potential to be a difference-maker in college.”
Morgan and the Michigan staff appear to be moving quickly to land Sanders. The Wolverines only offered the four-star cornerback on June 6 but have already secured an official visit and are considered the leader in the race to land Sanders, according to On3.
Since being hired by head coach Sherone Moore as an assistant coach in the program, Morgan has quickly established himself as one of the top recruiters on the Wolverines’ new staff. First, the 39-year-old secured a commitment from the FCS All-American cornerback. Amir Hall (Albany) and Safety Wesley Walker (Tennessee) and Jayden Mangum (Michigan State) exited the transfer portal this spring, and Morgan recently garnered a verbal commitment from a four-star safety. Ivan Taylor and Kainoa Winston They have a number of options for the 2025 freshman class, including acquiring Taylor from Notre Dame.
Michigan’s class is currently ranked 11th in the country and fourth in the Big Ten Conference, while the Wolverines have an average player rating of 91.85 (247Sports), third-best in the conference and eighth-best in the nation.
