Michigan eyes four-star running back Donovan Johnson

Michigan The university is looking to fill its recruiting slots for the 2025 freshman class and is still looking to sign a number of promising players.

With the dead period looming, the Wolverines are once again hosting large visiting groups, with many top-tier players in Ann Arbor this week, including Savannah, Georgia. IMG Academy 4-star running back Donovan Johnsontoured UM for the first time on Wednesday.

“good,” Johnson spoke to Wolverine’s EJ Holland about the visit.“I went down there and talked to all the coaches. I had a chance to talk to Coach (Sheron) Moore. I talked to Coach (Tony) Alford at a really long time. Great people. Great school. Great atmosphere. Not a negative word to say. I was there all day. Watched practice, went to the Big House. It was really awesome.”

The Wolverines are currently showing strong interest in Johnson. On3 Recruitment Prediction Machine (RPM)Three picks were listed Saturday as Michigan’s likely pick to take Berner, who would become just the second running back commit from a Big Ten program this cycle if he chooses the Maize and Blue.

Johnson named Georgia, Tennessee, Florida State, USC and Ohio State as his top choices in October, with Michigan not even in Johnson’s top five. Johnson told On3’s Chad Simmons he is close to making a decision, but remains ranked sixth in the running back rankings this season.

“Anything could happen at any time.” Johnson told Simmons last fall.“I’m looking for a family atmosphere; the bond I have with the staff, the interaction with the head coach and running backs, and what culture I’m the best fit for. Academics are important too; I want to major in engineering, so overall development on and off the field will help my decision.”

Johnson is the No. 239 overall prospect and the No. 15 running back in the 2025 cycle. On3 Industry RankingsThat’s a weighted average utilizing all four of the big recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 33 player in the state of Florida.

The Wolverines have a top-15 recruiting class this season.

Michigan enrolled the 15th-best class in the country in the last election, and its list of 2025 pledges currently sits in the same spot, he said. On3 Industry Team Recruitment Rankings.

Montgomery Village (Md.) Gonzaga four-star safety Kainoa Winston He was one of three to commit to the Wolverines this month, announcing his decision on June 14 and becoming the second top-100 pledge in the class behind Oak Park (Ill.) Fenwick four-star defensive lineman. Nate Marshall — The No. 45 prospect in the nation and No. 4 on the DL.

Michigan landed a three-star running back pledge from Marrero (Louisiana) Arch Bishop Shaw on June 15. Jasper ParkerPalatine (IL) 4-star DL Jalen Williams He also committed earlier this month and is one of three D-linemen in this class, along with four-stars Marshall and Howell (Mich.). Bobby Kanka.

The class also includes four-star quarterback from Bishop Bellot in Fort Myers, Florida. Carter Smiththe 16th QB in the cycle. He is currently the top commit on the offensive side of UM, along with Franklin (Mich.) Wiley E. Groves, a four-star IOL. Avery Gutch Right behind.
