- 106 Startups Join: Michigan Central’s Newlab opened with 25 startups on April 25, 2023, and has grown 320% in just over a year since then.

- 41% are focused on mobility and 19% are focused on energy. The majority of Michigan Central’s Newlab startups are developing technologies that advance the mobility and energy sectors.
- Diverse Community: 53% of Newlab’s startups at Michigan Central have at least one female, Black or Latinx founder or CEO, helping to address the underrepresentation of women and people of color in the tech industry.
- Venture capital raised and deployed:
- Raised $688.58 million: Michigan Central’s NewLab member companies have raised a total of $688 million in venture capital funding.
- Allocating $150,000 to underrepresented founders: Michigan Central and NewLab, in collaboration with the State of Michigan, have launched a Founder Fellowship program that will provide five climate tech founders from underrepresented backgrounds with the resources they need to scale their startups.
- $1.3 million committed through the Scale Fund: Michigan Central launched the Scale Fund to help scale and pilot startups in Michigan, and in collaboration with Newlab, has awarded cash prizes to 12 startups so far.

- Auto Trucking Hub: The pilot focused on advances in autonomous truck technology by testing techniques that can address a problem known in the industry as “the last five feet.”
- Mythos AI in Port Monroe: The pilot deployed autonomous marine hydrographic survey technology to enhance port operations, mapping the depth of waters and ultimately establishing autonomous shipping routes to help prevent large ships from running aground and delaying commerce.
- America’s first public EV charging corridorMichigan Central, the City of Detroit and MDOT unveiled the nation’s first public electric roadway using technology from Newlab member Electreon.
- Advanced Aviation Innovation RegionCentered around this effort, Michigan Central’s NewLab is currently developing several pilot projects that will enable drone operations beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) and push the boundaries of innovation in air mobility.
