Empower announced on Monday the appointment of Marta Norton to chief investment strategist, a newly created role within the firm. 
Norton is leaving Morningstar to join Empower Investments, Empower’s asset management division, where he will provide macroeconomic and investment insights, thought leadership and market analysis.

According to the announcement, the chief strategist will work with the business team to share insights with the firm’s clients, financial advisors, investment and client teams, and will publicly comment on general trends and economic factors impacting the markets.
Norton will join Empower on June 17th and will report to Jonathan Crider, executive vice president and head of Empower Investments.
“Part of the value we provide is providing expertise on the forces that drive the equity and fixed income markets to help investors make informed, advantageous decisions,” Crider said in a statement. “I am thrilled that Marta will be joining Empower and leading its efforts.”
Marta joins Empower from Morningstar, where she most recently served as Chief Investment Officer for the Americas, where she oversaw strategies to achieve a variety of investment objectives, including income generation and capital appreciation.
Prior to his 18 years at Morningstar, where he held various senior management positions, Norton was a research analyst at LECG LLC and previously worked at the Bureau of Labor Statistics in Washington, DC, where he contributed to the Bureau’s work on projects such as the Monthly Producer Price Index.
