7DrumCity is a local business that markets itself as one of the few places in the area where musicians are guaranteed the time, space and quiet they need to practice effectively.
Practicing an instrument in a densely populated city like Washington, DC, can be difficult due to noise regulations and limited space in apartments and townhouses.
For example, neighbors don’t necessarily want to hear someone playing drums next door.
That’s the basis of 7DrumCity, a local business that markets itself as one of the few places in the area where musicians are guaranteed the time, space and quiet they need to practice effectively.
“It’s like a musical mecca in the heart of the capital,” explains 7DrumCity’s marketing director, Amanda Dove.
“Through music and community, we can live a richer life that focuses less on the daily struggles,” Dove said.
It’s located on North Capitol Street in Northwest Washington, DC, just off Florida Avenue.
“Washington DC is a business-driven city and 7DrumCity is a getaway from it all,” Dove said. “Many people call it their second home.”
The business offers a unique combination of community, creativity and music education, calling itself “Washington DC’s premier location for musicians and enthusiasts to learn, rehearse and perform.”
People who want to practice their instruments alone can reserve a room, but some rooms can also accommodate bands.
It’s also a place where musicians who teach other musicians can bring their students for lessons, and Dove says all of the instructors at 7DrumCity have real-world stage experience.
“Back in the day, when I had music lessons, my teacher was a little old lady who would come to my house and teach me piano,” Dub says. “With 7DrumCity, you’ll learn from certified rock stars with industry knowledge.”
When the band goes to practice, they don’t necessarily have to bring all their equipment with them, as the room is equipped with a full-sized drum kit, PA system, guitar amps, bass amps and an 88-note weighted keyboard.
“Everyone has their own style and is unashamedly themselves, which is something you don’t often see in Washington, D.C.,” Dove says. “I love that it’s a comfortable space where everyone can express their individuality.”
