President Joe Biden joked about his age and spoke about his faith during a campaign address to worshippers at the Mount Airy Church of Christ in Philadelphia on Sunday.
He added, “We are all imperfect beings. We don’t know when, where or what our faith will lead us to. What we do know is that no matter what, we can seek a life of light and hope, love and truth. We can seek that life. If we take all of our experiences and give it all we’ve got and work on it together, there’s no stopping us.”
The president also attended a Sunday service at a black church in Delaware, telling the church that “through good times and bad, I have always felt the strength of your faith.”
Throughout his speech, the president appeared to be reading from prepared notes placed at the podium.
Biden also separately addressed this week’s NATO summit, saying, “I’m going to host NATO countries in Washington. We brought them together. We got it done. The world is counting on us. I’m not kidding.”
“The world looks to America not to bear its burdens but to be a guide to its hopes.”
The president remained at the church after his remarks, taking selfies and talking to attendees. As Biden walked through the room, some attendees chanted “Four more years.” Biden did not answer questions shouted by reporters.
Biden’s allies have encouraged him to do more unscripted, improvised events to avoid drawing public attention from his poor performances in the debates.
