I was feeling quite nostalgic when I read that the Live Oak Farmers Market is losing its longtime venue, but that the Live Oak School District may be able to provide the space.

As one of the founding directors of the first Certified Farmers Market on the Central Coast in 1977, and one of the first in the state, I was able to organize the first few seasons at Live Oak Elementary School very graciously and successfully. I remember it being held on. After his first few seasons, he moved to Cabrillo College, where he continues to thrive.

Without the partnership and support of Live Oak School, we may not have been able to launch our first market. And from there, it grew and grew and spread throughout the Central Coast and state.

The Live Oak School District’s support may once again be needed to keep this valuable community facility afloat.

— Jerry Kay, Santa Cruz

Letter writers must include their full name, address, and phone number. We won’t publish these details in the newspaper, but we need the information for verification.
