Which online jobs pay the best?
1. Freelance writer
Freelance writers work for brands and create content for a fee.
This content may include general articles, fictional stories, product reviews, or product comparisons.
According to Payscale, the average hourly wage for freelance writers in Kenya is Ksh 353.96 KH. This means that if you work for 10 hours, you can earn 3,500 Kenyan shillings every day.
2. Academic writing
Academic writing has proven to be a reliable source of income for most Kenyans who are unable to find other jobs.
According to Payscale, the average hourly wage for a writer in 2024 is Ksh 425.
Former academic writer Zac Twita revealed that he earned more than Sh1 million a month during peak season.

Bizna Kenya reported that Tiktoker Lewelleyn Ouya earned 400,000 Kenyan shillings from selling e-books.
6. Microtasks
Microtasks include completing assignments online. This ranges from data entry to creating product descriptions.
Several websites offer such tasks. Some of them include Remotasks, Upwork, and Amazon Mechanical Turk.
Brian Kipchumba, a student at Kaiboi University of Technology, told Chancellor William Ruto that he earned $284 (Ksh 40,902) in a few weeks on Remotask.

President William Ruto has announced plans to secure jobs for Kenyan youth abroad and in the digital sector.
Mr Ruto said he had signed agreements with foreign countries such as the US, UK and France to secure jobs for Kenyans.
