Letter to the editor: Investing in children
Published on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 5:20 p.m.
As a lifelong Austin resident and Austin High School graduate, I am proud to serve as a member of the Austin School Board. Her husband and I raised her five children who graduated from this district. And now I have the privilege of watching my grandchildren grow up here. I’m excited about what’s coming for our community.
I have worked at Mayo Clinic for nearly 35 years, which has given me a unique perspective as a member of the school board. My experience in financial management has strengthened my efforts to ensure the district’s budget reflects its educational goals, mission, and vision.
Investing in our children’s education is not just for now. Our district strives to make responsible financial decisions to meet today’s needs and recognizes that if we do it right, we have the opportunity to create a positive impact in the future as well.
Of course, it helps to have a roadmap. That’s why a school district’s long-term strategic plan is critical to managing current issues and planning for a brighter future. I would like to thank our entire community for supporting our district. It’s an honor to call Austin home.
