Returning assets stolen from the Mafia to the communities and stimulating young agricultural entrepreneurs. These are the main objectives of the protocol signed this morning in Rome between the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests and the State Agency for the Management and Destination of Assets Seized and Confiscated from Organized Crime. The project, defined by the Minister of the Interior, is: Matteo Piantedosiby the Minister of Agriculture, Francesco Lollobrigidawhich is far-reaching and can be combined with the repurposing of vast confiscated land assets for social purposes. (Approximately 9,000 plots) Relaunch of agricultural support policies, particularly interventions to support young agricultural entrepreneurs. In this project, the Confiscated Assets Agency will proceed with the maintenance of selected assets as state assets and make them available to the Ministry of Agriculture for use. Once the transfer of the assets has been finalized, the Ministry of Agriculture, through its subsidiary Ismea, will arrange a public tender for the transfer in favor of young entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector, taking into account the payment of subsidized fees and complying with European rules on state aid.
Revenue The benefits from the stipulated concessions will be transferred to a specific Masaf budget chapter. In this first phase, 1,400 properties will be allocated, combining the “need for a destination for assets” that would otherwise be at the expense of the state with the need to “boost youth entrepreneurship”, revealed the Director General of the Agency, Bruno Korda. Minister Lollobrigida is satisfied that this “important” protocol “shows positive results, since the fight against crime also corresponds to the resumption of agricultural activity thanks to the innovations brought by young people”. This is also because our country’s territorial abandonment is “more dramatic than any other European situation: agricultural landholdings have decreased by 35 percent in the last 30 years: a logical approach to this issue is necessary, without problematizing farmers for their land management”.
Minister Piante DosiIn addition to the two objectives already mentioned, the protocol also goes in the direction of “addressing the problem of depopulation in the country’s territories”, of which he is “confident that we will achieve important results”, commenting that “the government has and still does focus on, strengthening and making available resources to the Agency for Cultural Heritage that has been seized and confiscated from the mafia. Since the start of its activities, almost 24,000 properties have been transferred by the Agency for Cultural Heritage, 4,500 of which have been transferred by our government alone”. The agreement signed today stipulates, among other things, that the recipients are obliged to carry out social education and awareness activities on the allocated land in the presence of non-EU workers and disabled people in good standing with a residence permit, as part of projects aimed at their rehabilitation and reintegration into the workplace.
