KIC, in partnership with MasterCard Foundation, has launched a comprehensive series of skills training programmes on entrepreneurship for select rural women groups in the Northern Region. KIC plans to scale up these training sessions to other parts of the country, aiming to empower groups primarily of women and youth by equipping them with key entrepreneurial skills.
The training sessions are targeted at various women’s groups including farmer associations, youth and adolescent groups, etc. These sessions are designed to provide practical, hands-on training that can directly enhance participants’ capacity to generate income and support their families as entrepreneurs within the agricultural value chain.
In the northern region, the focus of the training was on processing groundnuts into coated roasted chips. This particular technology was chosen because of the high market demand and potential profitability. Women learned how to coat and package them.
One of the standout participants of this training was Dorcas Mudegu, a 32-year-old woman with a disability and assisted mobility. Despite the challenges, Dorcas showed incredible tenacity and determination throughout the training. She was able to learn new skills and start producing and selling roasted groundnut chips.
Dorcas’s story is a testament to the transformative power of these training sessions. With her newly acquired skills, she has not only been able to generate an income to support her family, but has also created employment opportunities for other women in her community. Her peanut chip business has become a source of inspiration and economic independence for many.
KIC has an unwavering commitment to providing opportunities to groups, primarily women and youth. By providing these entrepreneurial skills training programs, KIC aims to empower women to manage and grow their own businesses, fostering economic independence and community development.
These efforts are part of a broader strategy to strengthen the entrepreneurial capacity of women and youth and ensure they have the tools and knowledge they need to succeed in business. The partnership with the MasterCard Foundation underscores the shared vision of both organizations to drive inclusive growth and development for young people, especially women.
Through these targeted training programs, KIC and Mastercard Foundation have made great strides in empowering rural women groups. The skills acquired through these trainings not only improve the lives of individuals but also contribute to the overall economic development of the areas involved. As these programs scale up, it is hoped that the ripple effect of empowerment and entrepreneurship will spread to many more communities, fostering a culture of self-reliance and economic resilience.
