Kenyans warn against scammers claiming to offer jobs online: ‘Utapata Umeoshwa’

  • The scam involves luring unsuspecting individuals into following Telegram groups for job updates, sending screenshots as proof of completion, and receiving a small reward to gain trust. It is included.

They called it a new wave of online scams and warned others not to fall victim to scams promising high-paying part-time jobs.

X users warn about online scams

This warning was raised by X user @ItsJeffreyJeff, who warned fellow netizens about a new scam in which individuals posing as “Jumia virtual assistants” offer attractive part-time employment opportunities.

According to @ItsJeffreyJeff, scammers use sophisticated tactics to lure unsuspecting individuals into their traps.

“There’s a new scam in town. Guy na nikama, these guys have upgraded their scam game. Don’t be fooled if you receive a message from a ‘Jumia Virtual Assistant’ (VA) offering you a part-time job. Please.

Well, they will tell you to follow Telegram groups for job updates and instructions. The Veterans Administration will send you a link instructing you to send SS (screenshot) Alahuwanaku Jenga (after which he will give you an allowance of KSh 150 to KSh 300 to gain your trust).

“After a day’s work, you pay a certain amount of Unabiwa Utume (told to send money) so that you can receive your payment + bonus (and then you get scammed),” he explained. @ItsJeffreyJeff of X.

How was Maina seduced and deceived?

TUKO.co.ke spoke to Alex Maina, a 27-year-old man who fell victim to a scammer.

Maina told TUKO.co.ke that she received the first message directly on her mobile phone, which included a link to WhatsApp.

“Sijui Waritoa Namba Young Wapi but I received a message that my 50,000 Kenyan job has been approved. I knew it could be a con, but Nikaamua Kutli. Nili Follow Link ya WhatsApp Alahu Nikahuata’s instructions were Wakanitumia Kenya 300 digits initially.”

Next time they asked me to send them 1,500 Kenyan shillings so that the payment for the work could be approved. I felt like I was being scammed, but Nikaji Ambia sent me KSh 300, so maybe they will send it again this time. So, nikatuma na haivo ndio walitroka. This is because Kali and Ware Remake will benefit Hio Games,” Maina explained to TUKO.co.ke.

Other Kenyans shared their experiences, echoing @ItsJeffreyJeff’s sentiments and shedding light on the elaborate schemes used by scammers.

“I recently found out that I sent a few messages and ignored the person.It seems very unpleasant, but how can I receive money just by liking or subscribing to YouTube? Is it possible? Why can’t I send screenshots on Whatsapp?”

“After many exchanges, I never responded. Shikwa na iyo time (I didn’t have time for that), I was trying to ‘work online’. Kufinya computer na – Kupata Dollar (Press the computer to get dollars).
