New Delhi:
Kangana Ranaut, who recently became the new MP from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, said that working in the film industry is much easier than working in politics. In an interview to Himachal Podcast, the actress-turned-politician revealed that despite joining the BJP in March this year, she had received multiple offers to join politics over the last few years.
When asked why she joined the BJP, the actress said that she felt that now was the right time to join the party, even though she had received numerous offers over the years. She said she did not have to respond to those offers unless she wanted to.
“My great-grandfather Sarj Singh Ranaut was a state legislator. So, these offers have never been unfamiliar to my family. I was invited to join politics soon after my debut film ‘Gangster’. My father and sister have also been getting similar offers for years. This is not the first time I have been invited to join politics. If I was not interested in this, there would have been no need to go through all this trouble,” she said.
On balancing film and politics, Mundy said life as a politician is much “tougher” than life as a film star.
“It is a tough life, not like films. Film actors go to sets and premieres and relax. We (actors) lead an easy life. So, it took me a long time to get used to this life. It is a tough life, just like a doctor, where only those in need come to see you. When I go to films, I feel very relaxed. But politics is not like that,” she said, adding that she started on this path after receiving guidance from her mentor Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev.
“My mentor told me that doing what you love makes you smart, but doing what is necessary makes you a genius,” she said of her move into politics.
Ranaut won the Mandi Lok Sabha seat by beating his Congress rival Vikramaditya Singh, son of party stalwart Virbhadra Singh, by over 74,000 votes. He recently courted controversy after he was allegedly slapped by a CISF officer at Chandigarh airport a day after winning the election. The officer said his action was prompted by his past comments “disrespecting farmers”.
