1. If you love presidential debates, today is Christmas Day. The highly anticipated first debate between Donald Trump and President Joe Biden will air on CNN tonight at 8 p.m. The 90-minute debate will have two commercial breaks, and due to rules agreed to by both candidates, there will be no live audience in the debate hall and each candidate’s microphone will be muted when it is not their turn to speak.
2. Ready! Fireworks begin! The fireworks tents will be open today. Like Starbucks, there seems to be one, sometimes two, on every corner. In preparation for the fireworks, Sedgwick County will open a non-emergency fireworks complaint line. Starting Sunday, June 30, residents can call (316) 290-1011 to report nuisances such as fireworks, parties or excessive noise. The phone line will be staffed from 6pm to 3am through Saturday, July 6.
3. It looks like Princess Leia projecting her image onto R2D2 in Star Wars, but it’s even more amazing: A hospital in Texas has reportedly become the first in the US to install a device called the “Holobox.” The 3D system projects a life-sized hologram of a doctor and allows him to conduct a real-time consultation with a patient.
4. Amazon is preparing to launch a new section on its site to compete with low-cost sellers like Temu and Shein. The store will stock a variety of non-branded products. Many under $20.
5. My friends Larry and Jimmy were out fishing and one night Larry saw three “squatches” on the river bank. He quickly concluded that his friend Jimmy had lured them there to kill and eat him. So Larry killed Jimmy in self-defense. As you can imagine, this argument didn’t hold up in court and Larry will now spend the rest of his life in prison. The good thing is that at least in prison he won’t get caught by Bigfoot.
