Investing in rural areas across North Carolina

The North Carolina Office of Rural Infrastructure has approved 31 grant applications across the state, including in Catawba, Gaston and Anson counties.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) has approved more than $10 million in grants for more than 30 projects across North Carolina, Governor Roy Cooper announced Friday.

Cooper said in the announcement that the grant will bring more than 400 new jobs and attract more than $200 million in investment to rural areas across the state. Gaston, Catawba, and Anson counties are among the counties receiving funding as part of this effort.

The funds will be used for business development and renovation.

The City of Hickory received a $240,000 grant that will be used to renovate a 35,000-square-foot vacant building.

Steel Warehouse Co, a steel service center, will be the building’s new tenant. The company plans to create 58 jobs.

In Gaston County, two existing businesses will receive grants to expand. IFAB Corporation, a Gastonia metal fabricator, will receive his $500,000 for a 41,000-square-foot expansion with the added goal of creating 190 jobs. Dallas manufacturer Repi, LLC will receive her $250,000 for his 85,000 square foot expansion of an existing building. The company also hopes to create 25 jobs.

The Anson County town of Wadesboro will receive a $223,075 grant to complete improvements to the Wadesboro Industrial Park.
