Instagram influencer Anna Redman received a lot of backlash on social media after sharing the outfits she would wear on each day of her trip. It was her Auschwitz outfit inspiration post that saw people in disbelief and accusing her of being “tone deaf.” The now-deleted share reportedly showed her describing what she would wear to visit Auschwitz, where over 11 million people were murdered during the Holocaust.
In her post, she shared the dress she had picked out for the trip, along with the text, “Best packing hack ever. Anyone else match my weird outfit?”, according to The Independent. It didn’t take long for people to realise that her list also included Auschwitz. She shared a photo of the outfit she planned to wear next to the name of the memorial.
What was the reaction on social media?
“Some people never learn,” one person wrote. Another added, “Posting an outfit plan/inspiration for Auschwitz and then adding the text “anyone else fit my weird outfit” to the story, even if it’s about packing skills, is awful. Maybe I’m old, but don’t people dress respectfully at memorials? I get it’s summer, but was her planned outfit a black mini dress? Predictably, instead of apologizing, she has deleted the story, as well as all the comments criticizing her. I know some people don’t want to click on the DM article, so I’ll post a screenshot of the story.”
“She knew exactly what she was doing, she knew it would attract attention,” one social media user posted, while a fourth wrote: “This is really offensive and disrespectful.”
How did Anna Redman respond to the backlash?
Following the backlash, she deleted the post and released a statement, beginning with her apologizing for the distress she caused and saying she understood the “heavy weight” of visiting Auschwitz.
Redman, a former Bachelor contestant, runs an Instagram page where she regularly posts fashion and beauty tips and keeps a travel diary, with over 1,500 posts and more than 110,000 followers.
