Kris Gopalakrishnan, co-founder of Infosys and director of Pratiksha Trust, raised the need to “become an evangelist for world-class R&D and translational research in India”.

He enumerated a call to action, saying that for every $5 spent on research in the United States, $1 will be spent in India, supporting visiting professors for knowledge transfer and collaborative research, and creating 20 world-class mission modes. Said to set it up. large program.

“We need to move to a product/intellectual property-driven economy. This is critical to the transition to a $30 trillion economy by 2047,” he said. He added that India should produce products and technologies that are used by other countries.

He said there is a need to create capacity for large-scale programs in each institution, adding that India is one of the four countries going into space thanks to its Mission Mode program and dedicated funding. he added. “Identify white spaces, think about strategic areas, look at national interests and think ‘from India to the world’,” he added.

“We must support world-class research in India. We must participate or encourage students to pursue careers in science and research,” he said.

He talked about increasing investment in research. Gopalakrishnan went on to elaborate on his support for research in the field of neuroscience.

Earlier in the day, he inaugurated the ‘Diabetes Museum’ at the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF) facility in Siruseri.

Mr. V. Mohan, Chairman of DMDSC and MDRF, in collaboration with TANUVAS, will exhibit the pancreas of all animals and learn how the pancreas has evolved, including dozens of diabetic patients in India and Nobel Prize winners. He said that he had established a museum to exhibit them.

On this occasion, Sankara Netralaya Chairman TS Surendran presented the award to Mr. Gopalakrishnan. The award recognizes his role in advancing medical research in general and brain research in particular, according to a press release.

DMDSC and MDRF Vice Chairman Ranjit Unnikrishnan and Managing Director RM Anjana also spoke.
