
In light of the growing interest in space exploration among young entrepreneurs, the Indian National Space Propulsion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) has launched the Pre-Incubation Entrepreneurship Programme, a pioneering initiative aimed at supporting and nurturing early-stage space startups. IN-SPACe announces the launch of its PIE Development Programme, which will nurture and empower the next generation of space technology innovators, providing them with the tools and guidance they need to turn their space dreams into reality.
The 21-month program will guide aspiring entrepreneurs through a comprehensive journey divided into distinct phases of ideation, innovation and prototype development. IN-SPACe announced the launch of the program, which will ensure budding entrepreneurs receive structured support at each critical stage of their development.
Dr. Pawan Goenka, Chairman, IN-SPACe, emphasised the importance of this initiative. “India’s space sector is poised to grow exponentially and young entrepreneurs are crucial to drive this expansion. IN-SPACe announces launch of (PIE) PIE programme provides them with a launch pad and equips them with not only the technical expertise but also the business acumen required to navigate the complexities of the space industry. Early stage support will unleash the potential of innovative talent and contribute to India’s leadership in the global space industry.”
The PIE development program will help young entrepreneurs turn their innovative ideas into prototypes by fostering a supportive learning environment and providing participants an opportunity to interact and learn from handpicked skilled mentors from leading research institutes, incubators, academia and prominent space industry players. IN-SPACe announces launch of (PIE) Direct access to industry veterans and subject matter experts will provide valuable insights, feedback and networking opportunities; instill a culture of innovation among entrepreneurs and drive scientific advancements to generate socio-economic benefits, contribute to broader economic development and create new job opportunities in India’s space sector.
According to the program guidelines, applicants must be Indian citizens who are graduating or have already graduated in 2024, must not be receiving any grants, funding, or financial assistance from any private or government scheme, and all submissions must be original work. Startups registered with the Department of Promotion of Industry and Trade (DPIIT) on or after July 1, 2022 will be classified as early-stage startups.
The program is open to technical students or those who have a strong interest in space technology and are due to graduate in 2024, or master’s or doctoral students and early-stage startups with a focus on space technology.
