The federal government is committed to funding hundreds of aspiring entrepreneurs in Windsor-Essex with a $60 million allocation to support start-up business owners across Canada.

The funding is aimed at supporting the launch of approximately 6,250 new businesses across the country over the next five years.
Mr McKinnon was joined by local MP Mr Irek. Kusmierczyk (L — Windsor-Tecumseh), Representative of Futurpreneur Canada and Invest Windsor-Essex Timber + Plumb Kitchen and Cabinet Design Studio in Windsor.
“We know that entrepreneurs and budding small businesses are the backbone of our economy, the people who employ the most Canadians, and the people who represent the spirit of our communities. McKinnon said.
“When people choose to start their own business, they give it their all, but they need that support, a little financial assistance, and the vote of confidence that comes with an organization like Futurpreneur Canada.”
For more than 20 years, the nonprofit organization has helped more than 17,700 young entrepreneurs launch more than 13,900 businesses across the country. — including 3,800 people in Ontario — Supported by $161.5 million in federal funding.
The new investment will be rolled out over the next five years, along with contributions from Futurpreneur Canada’s corporate sponsors and partnerships with five provincial governments.

According to Janis Nixon, 76 per cent of Canadian small business owners are expected to retire over the next 10 years, creating a great opportunity for young entrepreneurs, said Futurpreneur Canada’s Vice President of Programs and Partnerships.
“At the same time, Millennials and Gen Z are increasingly interested in owning a business as a way to build financial security and long-term wealth,” Nixon said.
