Middle-market investment bank Houlihan Lokey has hired a senior banker from Deutsche Numis as managing director of its private capital markets team.
Dr. Ashish Patel has joined the bank as a managing director in the capital markets team, the bank said in a statement. He most recently served as Head of Growth Capital Solutions at Deutsche Numis, where he spent nearly three years. He was previously an investor at Optum Ventures.
Private capital markets have become an area of increasing focus for investment banks as companies stay away from public markets for long periods of time and IPOs slump amid volatile stock markets.
Last year, Houlihan hired David Kellner from Numis as a managing director to lead the private equity placement. At the time, he also led the Growth Capital Solutions team.

“I have worked with him previously and am very proud of his combination of operational scale-up expertise, investment advisory acumen, and uniquely broad sector knowledge, both as an advisor and as a leader,” Kellner said in a statement. “We are well aware of the unique qualities that the company offers.”
Houlihan Lokey also hired Julia Perroni as head of French capital markets in September. She was previously with Credit Suisse.
The middle market bank has significantly expanded the size of its European investment bank through a series of acquisitions over the past decade. Most recently, it announced the acquisition of Boutique Triago in December to strengthen its coverage of the private funds space.
