HERImpact: Entrepreneurship for Impact program launches in Chicago to empower women entrepreneurs

This six-month virtual accelerator is designed specifically for women entrepreneurs of color and aims to provide participants with the skills and tools they need to grow and scale their businesses. 1863 Ventures and Ford Philanthropy launch 2024 HerImpact Chicago Cohort
Program overview:
The HERImpact program, sponsored by 1863 Ventures and Ford Philanthropy, accepted 40 women into its comprehensive six-month curriculum. Participants can benefit from her monthly online workshops, coaching sessions and masterclasses with 1863 and Ford industry experts. Each entrepreneur will receive her $2,000 grant upon program completion.
Key event highlights:
In-person kickoff: The summit featured workshops on entrepreneurship, customer understanding, scalable growth processes, and financial management. Notable speakers include Jennifer Lyle of Ford Philanthropy and Melissa Bradley of 1863 Ventures.
- Panel discussion: One of the highlights was a panel discussion on entrepreneurship in Chicago moderated by Jennifer Lyle and featuring prominent speakers from the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and World Business Chicago.
- Networking Reception: The day concluded with a networking reception where attendees were able to connect with local leaders, Ford Fund representatives, and fellow entrepreneurs.
Program purpose:
- We provide technical assistance through expert-led business education sessions.
- Foster peer-to-peer networking and collaborative communities.
- Stimulating Chicago’s economic growth by connecting entrepreneurs with local ecosystem leaders.
- We explore the intersection of entrepreneurship and community impact, highlighting challenges and opportunities unique to women founders of color.
Selection criteria:
To qualify, applicants must be female founders of color with registered businesses in the Chicago metropolitan area that have been in operation for at least two years and generated at least $25,000 in revenue in their most recent fiscal year. It needed to be. Their business model had to demonstrate high growth potential and serve a trending market.
Ecosystem Advisory Partners:
The program works with several key partners including World Business Chicago, Women’s Business Development Center, Chicago Urban League, and Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce/SBDC to ensure strong support for participating entrepreneurs.
