In a July 8 press release, Baltimore-based Healthworx, the innovation and investment arm of CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, a health plan that serves 3.5 million members in the Baltimore, Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia metropolitan areas, announced a redesigned accelerator for health care startups seeking funding and mentorship.
According to a press release, the Healthworx Accelerator builds on its predecessor, 1501 Health, a 12-week program designed to give startups the tools to enter the healthcare market.
“The U.S. health care system is inadequate and increasingly expensive and inaccessible for millions of people,” Doba Parshev, managing partner at Healthworks, said in a statement. “The Healthworks Accelerator will serve as a strategic partner as companies begin to reform the system and provide higher quality, more affordable health care to Americans, and will also serve as a catalyst for startups looking to break through in the competitive health care marketplace.”
“The Healthworx Accelerator is purposefully designed to provide a streamlined insider perspective and education that would otherwise take years to acquire, ultimately providing each participating company the opportunity to leverage education, mentorship and networking to increase their growth and impact,” the press release stated.
Healthworx has announced that applications for its 2024 Healthworx Accelerator cohort will open next month.
