A panel of distinguished experts will examine issues relating to climate change and entrepreneurship at the 10th biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference, taking place from June 16 to 19 at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St James.
The 45-minute panel discussion, scheduled for June 17, will highlight key concerns and identify areas where innovative solutions are most urgently needed.
The face-to-face session will explore diverse opportunities for accessing business support and product development services leveraging the latest technology and scientific innovations. Participants will also gain insights from climate-conscious entrepreneurs who have successfully navigated their journey to becoming green entrepreneurs.
The session will be moderated by JN Foundation General Manager, Claudine Allen and will feature leading experts including Professor Dale Webber, Director of the Marine Science Centre at the University of the West Indies, Mona, who has extensive knowledge of marine ecosystems and their vulnerability to climate change.
Carrington Burrell, CEO of the Caribbean Climate Innovation Centre, will present strategies to spur innovation to address climate challenges in the Caribbean, while Dr Chara Watson, Executive Director of the Scientific Research Council, will provide insights into the latest scientific advances and their application to mitigating climate impacts.
Other panelists include David Wang, Acting Managing Director of the Development Bank of Jamaica (DBJ), who will discuss DBJ’s Green Climate Fund certification and support mechanisms available for green initiatives, and Jonathan Hernould, Chief Executive Officer of Reef Construction Limited, who will present practical business practices that are helping Jamaica’s coastline recover from the effects of climate change.
Allen said the session will be a cornerstone of the conference, equipping delegates with the knowledge and tools they need to create meaningful change in their fields and communities.
“Jamaica boasts strong support for those who want to take action to incorporate sustainability and resilience into their operations. The panel will provide practical information to show those living abroad how they can achieve their investment and business goals while contributing to Jamaica’s climate resilience,” she said.
