As plan sponsors across the country strive to increase employee participation and engagement, a recent conference highlighted some of the best plan sponsors. Pensions and Investments 2024 Eddie Awards.
Two retirement plans sponsored by Nationwide, San Joaquin County, California, and Maryland’s Teachers and State Employees Supplemental Retirement Plan (MSRP) led the way in participants’ educational activities.
The 2024 Eddy Awards recognised 44 defined contribution campaigns that highlight their creativity and focus on helping employees achieve a dignified retirement.
San Joaquin County won first place in the Special Projects category for its Virtual Courtyard event. For this initiative, the county partnered with Nationwide to create a colorful, 3D virtual courtyard for employees to visit and better understand available resources and financial tools, including accessing educational videos and scheduling meetings with retirement experts. The courtyard event was attended by 61 percent of the county’s 5,060 employees.

“Nationwide went all out in terms of quality and provided participants with a different type of communication than they normally receive from their county government,” Jennifer Goodman, San Joaquin County’s human resources director, told Pensions & Investments.
MSRP was named a finalist in the Special Projects category for the Maryland State Employees $ave Week campaign, a week-long event focused on increasing enrollment and strengthening financial literacy. The campaign led to a 20% increase in enrollment over the previous year.
