Harlequin is Green Lantern, his one of Alan Scott’s original villains (later his wife), All American Comics (1939) #89 as a bespectacled acrobatic criminal who can give “hypnotic illusions.” These glasses were later revealed to be a gift from Manhunter. Infinity Corporation (1984) #46 explains how Molly, who was a secretary at the time of her debut as a supervillain, was able to obtain such amazing technology.

Many prominent figures have been revealed or reconceived as having ties to the Manhunter cult, including Molly Mane. Her glasses were intended as a bribe to recruit her to her cult.
But Manhunter is the key to Harlequin’s glasses, and thus to the entire Harlequin lineage. Originally, it was a vigilante amalgamation of two 1940s characters previously named “Manhunter” (Paul Kirk and Rick Nelson), but the entire “Manhunter” identity reconsidered. Justice League (1960) #140-141 is an android precursor to the Green Lantern Corps and a robotic servant of the Guardians designed to monitor the universe, free from the physical strength and emotions that the Guardians lacked. After the Manhunters rebelled (later counterattacking again, including the massacre of the entire Space Sector), the Guardians banished the Manhunters.
The Manhunters became a major enemy in the late 1970s and 1980s; Justice League (1960), Infinity Corporation (1984)and Millennium (1988). These titles revealed that after Manhunter was exiled, he formed a revenge cult and planted seeds across the galaxy to fight back against the Guardians. A former STAR Labs researcher, Dr. His Light’s accomplishments are nothing short of legendary. He can manipulate hard light, project force fields, project holograms, teleport, and drain photon energy to empower himself. Justice Society of America (2022) #9 believes these breakthroughs are primarily due to reverse engineering the technology in Harlequin glasses.
Another similar light and illusion-based villain is the Mirror Master. One of The Flash’s most notorious rogues, his Mirror Master claim to fame is the Mirror Gun, which gives him access to the Mirror Dimension and allows him to pass through reflective surfaces.
