Kilgoris University graduate Abraham Reteipa Kaeno, 29, revealed that he earns at least Sh68,000 a week from online work.
In a disclosure made by President William Ruto on March 17, 2024 via social media, the head of state said Mr Kayeno was earning at least US$500 a week through Konza Digital Skills, which translates to about Sh68,000. he suggested.
He encouraged young people to take advantage of technology and the digital space to secure meaningful employment.
“Abraham Reteipa Caeno is a powerful story about how young people can effectively leverage technology for self-employment.
The 29-year-old Kilgoris University graduate earns an average of $500 (Sh68,000) a week from online work through Konza Digital Skills,” Ruto said.
This comes just days after online gig platform Remotasks closed its store in Kenya after it was revealed how another middle-aged man was making money on the platform.

Mr. Brian Kipchumba, a student from Kaiboi National Institute of Technology, spoke to Mr. Ruto and demonstrated how Remotask works and the amount of money he earned from Remotask.
Kipchumba revealed that the platform paid Sh45,000 for the period from December 26, 2023 to January 16, 2024.
“I am working online from December 26, 2023 till now. As you can see, the total money I earn is from 284 USD (45,000 Kenyan Shillings) to the taxes you receive (40,000 Kenyan Shillings).・Shillings, etc.),” Kipchumba said.
“I can confirm to Kenyans through my account that everything you are saying is real. I can tell you that online jobs pay well,” he added.
Just two months after the revelations, Remotasks announced its withdrawal from the Kenyan market, leaving thousands of young people without jobs.
The Germany-based global AI company has blocked access to the site for all Kenyan users with active accounts.
A screenshot shared by a social media user working on the platform showed an email from Remotask stating that Kenyans will no longer be able to access the platform as of March 8, 2024.
“We would like to send you an important announcement regarding Remotasks operations in your area. We will cease operations at your current location effective immediately,” the email read in part.
“As part of this change, you have been removed from your current project. Payments related to completed work will be received via the payment account set up in your profile,” it added.
