Google Australia has announced the launch of a startup accelerator program aimed at AI-focused companies.
The Google for Startups Accelerator: AI First program, although it has a slightly longer name, is a 10-week accelerator focused on Australian AI and machine learning startups at the seed and Series A stages of their business.
Google Australia said the program is aimed at promoting local innovation and builds on the tech giant’s other efforts in the space, including AI Sprint and Google Certificates.
In addition to being equity-free, accelerators have several other benefits, including:
- Mentoring and practical guidance from Google AI experts
- Technical support through in-depth sessions on AI tools and infrastructure
- Eligible startups will have free access to cloud credits.
The programme also offers a founder network, providing opportunities to connect and collaborate with other AI startups locally and internationally.
Additionally, the hands-on bootcamp will cover topics such as UX/product design, marketing, sales, leadership and effective goal setting.

Google’s AI First program is just one of 24 accelerator programs the company currently operates in 87 countries. The accelerators operate in both established startup ecosystems and emerging markets, supporting a diverse range of entrepreneurs and developers.
The program is designed to be intensive and focused, running over a three-month period and offering one-on-one mentoring from leading experts from Google and the industry. Startups will set a single goal during the accelerator and spend their time developing a technical solution towards that goal.

These companies currently employ over 115,000 people worldwide and have a survival rate of 96%. 20 of these startups have also become unicorns.
Applications for the AI ​​First Accelerator are open until 31 July 2024. Australian startups using AI are encouraged to apply to accelerate their growth with support from Google.
