Let’s take a look at MLB hitters who have performed well over the past seven days.
Last week, I began a new series looking back at batting performance over the past seven days and identifying the top hitters in MLB.
This is a way to not only identify potential waiver wire options, but also determine which players have a bit more trade value at the moment.
That’s the first news, let’s talk about the top hits from last week.

Batters on the rise
The Chicago Cubs and Detroit Tigers lead MLB with 10 hits each over the past seven days.
Bush had three doubles and two home runs among his 10 hits last week. He also had six RBIs, seven runs scored, one walk and four strikeouts in that span.
Bush appeared in the most recent waiver wire article I wrote, in which I mentioned that Bush was a popular player on the waiver wire early in the season and had been a pretty strong option in standard leagues for several weeks.
He’s back in that exact same position now and can be added and played in almost every league type. Bush is available in about 50% of leagues, so act now if you want to get him.
Urshela had 10 hits last week, including a double, a triple and a home run, and also had six RBI, four runs scored, one walk and three strikeouts in that time period.
Owned in only 4% of leagues, Urshela may be available in your league if you’re looking for a good hitter to thrive in the short term. I would only consider Urshela in deeper leagues, but even in those leagues I think he hits well enough right now. Act now, as his good times probably won’t last.
The New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds each recorded nine hits over the past week.
Nimmo is an under-the-radar fantasy player in my opinion, he is on pace to hit 28 home runs and record 100+ runs and RBIs, which is great fantasy production and he is rarely mentioned as one of the elite fantasy hitters in the game.
Last week, Nimmo had 3 home runs, 2 doubles, 10 RBIs, 5 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 stolen base and 7 strikeouts. His recent surge has boosted his fantasy SP player rating to 20.03 and he is currently 24th overall on the trade value chart.
In fact, judging by his numbers from this past season, I think his batting average has room for improvement, so while he may never hit 100 RBIs or runs scored, I think his trade value will remain pretty high for the remainder of the season. If you draft Nimmo, I’d just enjoy his big play.
Nimmo is a great trade option right now if your other fantasy outfielders are doing well as well. You could get a quality infielder or pitcher or even two or three quality reinforcements. If you choose to trade Nimmo now, make sure you get a good return because he’s a much better fantasy asset than many people think.
Stevenson is another player I featured in my waiver wire article. He has four doubles and a home run over the past week. Stevenson also has 10 RBI, six runs scored, no walks, and three strikeouts during that time.
In our waiver wire article, we mentioned that Stevenson ranked in the top 10 of fantasy catchers in points leagues this season, meaning he should be a waiver wire option in all league types, not just deep formats. He’s owned in 18% of leagues, so there’s a pretty good chance he’ll be available if you need catching help. Don’t miss your chance now before his numbers drop.
Players from the Seattle Mariners and New York Yankees both followed Stephenson’s lead, hitting four home runs in the past week.
Lawrie had a double among his eight hits last week, and also had eight RBI, seven runs scored, two walks, one stolen base and five strikeouts.
Raleigh is owned in 87% of fantasy leagues, but his strong flow at the plate should push that ownership rate closer to 100%. He can be used as a starter in any format, and since this power stretch probably won’t last long, put him in your lineup tonight.
Rice hit his stride on July 4 and hasn’t slowed down much since. He’s managed just one more hit (a single) over the past seven days, but he has 11 RBI, four runs scored, one walk and nine strikeouts.
He’s currently owned in 71% of leagues and is a decent option in all league types. He should already be on most deeper leagues and dynasty rosters and is worth keeping in at least standard leagues to see if he can continue to perform well. Rice may not be able to continue this well, but he has a chance to play every day until his return, which isn’t expected until at least August.
Arizona Diamondback Suarez has 10 RBIs over the past seven days. He has also hit a double, three home runs and scored five runs in seven at-bats. In that time frame, he has walked three and struck out four.
Suarez is well known in fantasy baseball circles for his power, and while he seems to be thriving in Arizona, batting just .207 this season, he’s performed well enough over the past week that you could consider adding him to your team.
Suarez is a streaming option in standard leagues. Look for long-term options rather than adding him. He is owned in 20% league-wide and it may not be long before he is owned in most deeper leagues. Given his current hitting situation, he could be added and slotted into the starting lineup immediately. The hot streak won’t last long, so take advantage of Suarez while you can.
I’m going to revisit an Oakland Athletics player I mentioned in another article yesterday, who I think is underrated as a fantasy player.
Over the past week (five games), Rooker has seven hits (including a double and a home run) and four walks for a .545 on-base percentage. He has also recorded five RBIs, nine runs scored and one stolen base in that span.
Rooker is owned in 77% of all fantasy leagues but ranks just 29th on the FantasySP trade value chart, and would have been one of the fantasy leaders this season had he not missed games early in the season.
While Rooker does strike out a lot, his other numbers more than make up for that, and if you add him to your fantasy team, he’ll likely be in the starting lineup almost every day and be a reliable player for the majority of the remainder of the regular season.
The final story of the week is from Oakland, who had just 7 hits and 3 walks last week, putting him over .500 on base.
Among his hits he has 1 home run, 3 RBI, 4 runs scored, 2 stolen bases and 5 strikeouts. Although his season numbers are not stellar, he is currently playing frequently and getting on base at a high rate.
Schumann is really just a deep league option as his 12% PR indicates, and his ability to play anywhere on the field might boost his fantasy value a bit: If you’re in a deep league and need some short-term fantasy help, Schumann is quietly a good option right now, especially in leagues where OBP is rewarded.
