ATLANTA – The state of Georgia was recently awarded a Gold Shovel Award for attracting new business investment and job creation in 2023.

The Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) announced today that Georgia has received a Gold Shovel Award from economic development business magazine Area Development for its significant success in attracting new business investment and creating jobs in 2023.
“The thousands of jobs we have created across Georgia would not have been possible without the efforts of our economic development teams in all four corners of the state.” Governor Brian P. Kemp said:“Their efforts have enabled Georgia to bring record investment and hundreds of thousands of jobs to our communities. Their commitment to making markets work and meeting innovative companies, combined with our business-friendly approach, unmatched workforce and world-renowned logistics, have helped our state remain number one for business and this Gold Shovel award is well deserved.”
Area Development’s annual Gold and Silver Shovel Awards recognize state economic development agencies that have demonstrated excellence in implementing successful strategies to create a business-friendly environment, foster innovation and attract high-quality investment projects. All states were invited to submit information to Area Development about major ground breaking, investment and business expansions taking place in 2023.
