The Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) announced today that Georgia has received a Gold Shovel Award from economic development business magazine Area Development for its significant success in attracting new business investment and creating jobs in 2023.

“Without the efforts of our economic development teams across Georgia, we would not have been able to create thousands of jobs across the state,” said Governor Brian P. Kemp. “Their efforts have enabled Georgia to bring record investment and hundreds of thousands of jobs to our communities. Their passion to make markets work and meet with innovative companies, combined with our business-friendly approach, unmatched workforce and world-renowned logistics, have helped our state remain number one for business, and this Gold Shovel award is well deserved.”
Area Development’s annual Gold and Silver Shovel Awards recognize state economic development agencies that have demonstrated excellence in implementing successful strategies to create a business-friendly environment, foster innovation and attract high-quality investment projects. All states were invited to submit information to Area Development about major ground breaking, investment and business expansions taking place in 2023.
“We’re excited to celebrate these states’ outstanding achievements in driving economic growth and creating jobs,” said Andy Greiner, editor of Area Development Magazine. “The Gold and Silver Shovel Awards recognize the exceptional efforts of state economic development teams and their unwavering commitment to building strong, vibrant economies.”
“Georgia stands out for the diversity of industries leading the way to success. Advanced manufacturing, aerospace, e-mobility, life sciences, fintech and many more industries played key roles in winning Shovel Awards again this year,” said Georgia Economic Development Commissioner Pat Wilson. “As we look back on our record-breaking run, we look forward to celebrating this monumental milestone with the partners who made these opportunities possible. I congratulate Governor Kemp, the State Legislature, the State Economic Development team and all of our partners across the state. Your dedication and support continue to create opportunities that our communities will benefit from for decades to come.”
