The Los Angeles Dodgers saw their four-game hitting streak come to an end with a 7-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday, but Gavin Lux continued his recent strong streak at the plate.
The 26-year-old is 2-for-4 with a triple and has had at least one hit in seven of his last nine games. “Gavin is a dynamic hitter,” manager Dave Roberts said.
“He’s got good bat speed, he’s agile, he sees the ball well, so to have a multi-hit game, get some bases loaded, get some triples out, block the ball the other way, I think that’s what we want from him.”
“If he can do that, he’ll get some drive-ins and walks. So, call it 10 games, he’s hitting the ball harder, he’s getting better at-bats and I think he’s heading in the right direction.”
Lux missed all of last year with a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and left collateral ligament (LCL) in his right knee, so this season, his first major league game since 2022, is understandably off to a slow start.
Roberts previously estimated that Lux would need about 150 at-bats to get back on track. “Yeah, I think so too. I think he’s right around there, I think he’ll get to 140 at-bats, so he’s right around that threshold,” Roberts said.
And I think Gavin has become much more consistent over the last seven to 10 games. It will take some time to get back to competing and playing. So I think what we’ve seen recently is something he can sustain for the rest of the games and beyond. ”
In 37 games and 137 at-bats this season, Lux is hitting .203/.255/.281 with three doubles, two triples, one home run, and 12 RBIs. He has struggled offensively, but provides value with his glove at second base.
Gavin Lux: First home run since 2022 ‘felt great’
Lux hit his first home run since 2022 earlier this month and believes it was a step in the right direction.
