After two seasons in Durham, Duke University basketball starting forward Mark Mitchell entered his name into the transfer portal and elected to continue his college career elsewhere.

Despite rumors that he could return to his home state to play at Kansas State with Jerome Tann, it appears the former Blue Devil may be leaning toward another destination.

Early Thursday morning, 247Sports’ Travis Branham submitted a crystal ball prediction that Mitchell would end up going to Missouri State. Branham has a strong track record when it comes to picks, so we can assume there’s a lot of traction for Mitchell to go to the Tigers.

Additionally, On3’s Jamie Shaw seems to agree that Missouri is the favorite.

Mitchell visited Missouri in the summer of 2021 during his initial recruiting efforts. With that in mind, the reported interest between the two sides makes sense.

In two seasons at Duke, he started 67 of the 68 games he played in. Mitchell, 20, appeared in 33 games last season, averaging 11.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists while shooting 54.0 percent from the field.

The 6-foot-9 native of Kansas City, Kansas, could be a perfect fit for head coach Dennis Gates and his Tigers, who struggled mightily last season. They were winless in SEC play with 0 wins and 18 losses, and finished with 8 wins and 24 losses overall.

Mark Mitchell is one of five Duke basketball players to enter the transfer portal this offseason. Christian Reeves, Jalen Blakes, Jaden Shutt and Jeremy Roach are also former Blue Devils who are now looking to continue their basketball careers outside of Durham.
