Sanders said Farmers Fridge primarily uses Samsara’s technology to monitor temperatures inside its refrigerated cargo vans to ensure food stays fresh during deliveries. Farmers Fridge also uses Samsara’s technology to ensure driver safety.
“I get a safety score for my drivers every Monday morning,” says Sanders. “You’d be surprised at how many 125 drivers we have across the country. Some of these drivers work at markets where they’re the only employees at Farmers Fridge. Our delivery model is that the driver has a parking spot, so we send the truck to that parking spot, the driver swaps the truck and comes back. So it’s given us a lot more visibility. We couldn’t run a national network and keep it safe without a tool like this.”
When Farmers Fridge implemented Samsara’s technology and driver coaching in 2021, the company’s safety score was 54. Now, Farmers Fridge boasts a safety score of 92.

Safety Integration
According to Steven Berczynski, fleet and safety manager at Farmer’s Fridge, using Samsara technology has helped the company build and maintain a strong safety culture. One Samsara tool that helps with this is real-time safety alerts that are integrated directly into Slack.
“We integrated Samsara into Slack, so if one of our vans experiences a catastrophic event like hard braking, a sharp turn or a collision, we get a notification in Slack right away,” says Berczynski.
Berczynski explained that emoji reactions to these notifications in Slack instantly create workflows for Farmer’s Fridge’s market managers and streamline the company’s standard operating procedures after an incident. But most importantly, this visibility allows Farmer’s Fridge staff to reach out to drivers and ensure they’re safe.
During the tour of the Farmer’s Fridge, Berczynski showed off several dashcam videos that captured Samsara’s drivers in tough situations, including braking and accidents. Berczynski said Samsara’s dashcam video is another important safety feature for the company, as it can quickly let the company and police know if a driver was at fault.
