Indian cricketer Virat Kohli enjoys a huge fan following across the globe, and a video of a life-size statue of the maverick batsman being installed in New York’s Times Square has been trending online, creating a frenzy among cricket fans.
A giant, gleaming gold statue of Kohli can be seen in the video, where he is seen standing tall with cricket pads on his knees and a bat in his hand. Popular mattress brand Duroflex, which shared the video on X, commented, “Iconic Times Square has been home to a life-size statue of Virat Kohli. This King’s mission is to create history on a global scale! Wishing Virat Kohli great sleep and good health.”

The video, which was shared on June 23, garnered a lot of reactions as Kohli’s fans flooded the comments section. Many wondered if it was CGI (computer generated imagery). Reacting to it, one user wrote, “King Kohli = Global Sports Star.” Another commented, “Cricket God.”
“Much respect to Virat and what he has done for India but the reality is India has not won any ICC tournament in the last 10 years,” responded a third user. “Is this real or computer-generated?” another wrote.
India on Monday defeated Australia by 24 runs in the final match of the Super 8s to set up a meeting with England in the semi-finals of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Indian captain Rohit Sharma scored 92 runs off just 42 balls to help India post 205/5 against Australia. The match was played at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia. Australia’s fate will be decided in the final match of the Super 8s, between Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
