This July, Elon Musk recommended 11 audiobooks for “people who think about Rome every day,” saying they “will take a while to get through, but are well worth it.”
“Some audiobook recommendations,” Elon Musk wrote on X. The 53-year-old’s first pick was “The Story of Civilization” by Will and Ariel Durant. The next two recommendations from the world’s richest man were Penguin’s edition of “The Iliad” and Friedrich Hayek’s “The Road to Serfdom.”
Musk’s fourth recommendation is “American Caesar” by William Manchester, and his fifth recommendation is “Masters of Doom” by David Kushner.
The Wages of Destruction by Adam Tooze and Storm of Steel by Ernst Junger rank sixth and seventh on the list, respectively.
The eighth book is The Guns of August by Barbara W. Tuchman.
Julius Caesar’s The Gallic Wars, William Bolitho Lyall’s The Twelve Divine Generals, and Jack Weatherford’s Genghis Khan are also on the list.

Earlier this June, the Tesla CEO shared some podcast recommendations on his Platform X (formerly Twitter) stream, saying that Dan Carlin’s “Hardcore History” podcast, known for its “unique combination of high drama, brilliant narration, and Twilight Zone-esque twists,” was his top pick, according to its Apple Podcasts page.
He also recommended the Explorers Podcast, which focuses on “the lives, explorations and discoveries of history’s greatest explorers.” The Tesla boss is also a fan of The Age of Napoleon Podcast, which is based on “the life and career of Napoleon Bonaparte and the general situation in Europe in the early 18th and early 19th centuries.”
