We are now targeting the 23,100-23,400 zone for the Nifty, with the 22,600-22,800 zone expected to provide support in case of any pullback. Investors should focus more on heavyweight stocks and remain selective in the midcap and smallcap segments.

Stock Market LIVE Updates: Oil prices flat after Fed keeps interest rate options open
Oil prices were little changed on Thursday after the minutes of a U.S. Federal Reserve meeting revealed discussions of a further tightening of interest rates if inflation remained sticky, a move that could hurt oil demand. Brent crude futures were up 10 cents, or 0.1%, at $82.00 a barrel by 0850 GMT. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude (WTI) futures were up 7 cents, or 0.1%, at $77.64. Both benchmarks fell more than 1% on Wednesday.

Dollar near one-week high on hawkish Fed minutes; pound unmoved by election news
On Thursday, the dollar remained close to a one-week high, following its largest daily percentage increase of the month against a basket of currencies on the previous day. This surge came as minutes from the latest Federal Reserve meeting showed a willingness among some officials to raise interest rates.

Silver futures decline to Rs 91,030 per kg
Silver price on Thursday fell Rs 1,983 to Rs 91,030 per kilogram as participants reduced their bets. On the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver contracts for July delivery declined Rs 1,983 or 2.13 per cent to Rs 91,030 per kg in a business turnover of 25,739 lots. Globally, silver was trading 3.04 per cent lower at USD 30.54 per ounce in New York.

There are positives and negatives for the market today. The biggest positive is the record Rs 2.11 lakh crores dividend from the RBI to the government, which will give an additional 0.3% of GDP fiscal room for the government. This means the government can reduce its fiscal deficit and step up infrastructure spending. The bond yields have declined sharply reflecting lower borrowing by the government. Decline in bond yields is positive for banking stocks. Brent crude dipping below $82 is positive for India’s macros. The negative for equity markets is the Fed meeting minutes which indicate concern over the stubbornness of inflation. This means that the ‘higher for longer’ rate regime is likely to continue for some time more till clarity emerges on inflation. The rate cut expectations, therefore, further get postponed. A slightly negative signal for global equity markets.
