Once the job of an older, wiser manager, football management is now getting younger with each season, but can you name the youngest permanent Premier League manager?
Players aiming to become managers is not a completely new idea, but its growing popularity means younger players are keen to leave football behind and make the leap – and even those who have never played football are keen to get behind the touchline as soon as possible.
Julian Nagelsmann and Edin Terzic, despite not having been successful players, have emerged as European leaders as managers after entering the coaching world at a young age, while Xabi Alonso is already a Bundesliga champion at just 42 years old.
With major media outlets reporting that 31-year-old Fabian Furzeler, who led St. Pauli to promotion to the Bundesliga, is set to become Brighton’s new manager, we’d like you to name the youngest permanent manager since the Premier League was founded in 1992.
The key word here is “permanent”. Forget about interim managers or periods of caretaker manager, we are only interested in managers who have been in the job permanently. That said, there have been some player-manager periods too, so keep that in mind as you consider.
