Flowertown, Pennsylvania — For the second year in a row, Guardian Nurse Healthcare Advocates has partnered with the Pennsylvania Nightingale Awards to recognize entrepreneurial nurses in Pennsylvania with the Guardian Nurse Entrepreneur Awards for 2024. Guardian Nurse will again sponsor the $5,000 prize presented to the winner this year.
To be eligible for the Guardian Nurses Entrepreneurial Award, applicants must be the founder of an existing business that is less than two years old or in the process of starting a business. Eligible businesses include, but are not limited to, companies that develop and sell home health products or medical devices, or provide independent nursing services such as patient care, nursing education, home health care or consulting services.
“Starting your own business takes drive and determination, and Guardian Nurse wants to encourage and support the entrepreneurial efforts of our fellow nurses,” said Betty Long, MHA, RN, president, CEO and founder of Guardian Nurse. Long also currently serves as chair of the Board of Trustees for the Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania.
“Nurse entrepreneurs have a unique and powerful combination of professional experience, passion and education that translates into business success,” continues Long. “We hope that the Guardian Nurse Entrepreneur Awards will encourage talented nurses in the early stages of their healthcare ventures and inspire other nurses to consider starting their own businesses in the future.”
Long founded Guardian Nurses in 2003 as a one-nurse patient advocacy organization. Twenty-one years later, her company employs 57 full-time employees and provides high-touch, in-person nurse support services by literally moving nurses around in branded vehicles. Guardian Nurses’ Mobile Care Coordinator program was recognized for its innovation by receiving an Edge Runners award from the American Academy of Nursing.
To be eligible for the Entrepreneurial Award, applicants must hold a valid Pennsylvania nursing license, be in good standing, and own a company or organization based in, incorporated in, or with a significant presence in Pennsylvania. Award finalists will be invited to participate in a virtual interview with members of the selection committee.
