Brookdale Community College has announced the VentureHive Entrepreneurial Ecosystem (VEE), an initiative to foster entrepreneurship in Monmouth County. The program kicked off with an event called ‘The Pitch’, where aspiring entrepreneurs presented their unique business ideas in short form to a panel of judges and an audience. From technology solutions to pet-friendly fitness centers, the event highlighted the thriving entrepreneurial spirit in the county.
The event was spearheaded by Dr. Jackelyn Mejias Fuertes, the driving force behind this initiative and regional director of Brookdale’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC). In his opening remarks, Dr. Mejias Fuertes emphasized the program’s mission to foster a culture of collaboration and entrepreneurship that is essential to sustainable business development in Monmouth County.
“The VEE” for short is a place where people team up, get coaching, and learn how to successfully start a business. In the Small Business Accelerator program, people begin their educational journey. They will learn a lot about running their business better and sharpening their sales pitches.
The cornerstone of the accelerator program was the pitch event, which featured diverse business presentations from 10 ambitious entrepreneurs. These people are competing for funding and guidance to advance their businesses.
County Commissioners Thomas A. Arnone and Kevin Barry Moette, both experienced judges with extensive entrepreneurial expertise, were members of the panel discussion. Mr. Arnone’s distinguished tenure as a Monmouth County Board member highlights his commitment to promoting the local business climate. As Townsquare Ignite’s digital sales manager and small business advocate, Moedt brings valuable insights from his multifaceted experience.
Joining the panel were Lisa Ascolese, the visionary CEO of Inventing A to Z, who revolutionized the TV shopping industry with innovative products and a dynamic presence; Tyler Colombo, Sen. Gopal’s legislative aide, who is dedicated to mobilizing. Passion for community empowerment.
Dr. Pericles Scaranni, a renowned expert on entrepreneurial leadership around the world, completed the panel. With diverse experience in academia, philanthropy, and business, Dr. Scaranni has an outstanding talent for motivating and advising aspiring entrepreneurs.
As their pitches developed, each presenter received valuable feedback from the judges. Their diverse perspectives and rich experience promise to guide budding entrepreneurs to success. Overall, the event highlighted the vibrant entrepreneurial spirit and innovative thinking that is advancing Monmouth County’s business climate.
Under VEE’s leadership, Brookdale Community College is preparing the next generation of business leaders in Monmouth County and beyond to become leaders in entrepreneurial innovation.
Expectations for Demo Day are high. There, the transformative impact of the accelerator program will be on full display, charting the evolution of these ventures over 10 weeks. The stakes are high and participants compete for his first, second and third place. Thanks to the generous support of the National Association of Community Colleges and Entrepreneurship, grants totaling $4,500 are available.
