Bridgeport small business owners speak out after third vandalism attack – NBC Chicago

The owner of a Bridgeport beauty supply store is speaking out after her store was once again the target of vandalism.

This isn’t the first time Prima owner Whitney Cumbo has found herself in hot water outside of her own business.

“The last time, a guy on a bike drove by and punched my window,” Cumbo said. “The time before that, a guy came by on his bike and threw a rock at my window and broke it. This is something that happens really often and I think people need to hear it and be aware.”

Kambo started the small business with her sister five years ago.

She said she chose Bridgeport because it’s close to where she grew up and it feels like home.

Recently, she said she felt like she was being excluded because of her race.

“As an African-American woman, the cards have already been dealt to me,” Cumbo said, “and yet, despite all my efforts and struggles, I continue to be set back for no apparent reason.”

The most recent vandalism occurred on Tuesday, June 18th.

Cumbo said he’s still waiting for the windows at the front of his store to be repaired, but he’s also waiting for Chicago police to find the culprit.

“It just feels like a defeat considering we’re in a good position, we have good intentions, we bring good energy, we create a good atmosphere,” employee Donte Miles told NBC Chicago.

Police are continuing to investigate, but no suspects are in custody for the vandalism.
