Black entrepreneurs succeed in Minnesota

Many black immigrants come to Minnesota with ambitions and talents that lead to entrepreneurship. They want to be their own boss. They want to build wealth for their families and build assets for their communities. However, many people encounter distinct challenges along the way.

That’s why Sahan Journal is assembling a panel of successful Black entrepreneurs in Minnesota. On May 30, at 6 p.m., Sahan founder and CEO Mukhtar M. Ibrahim and reporter Alfonzo Galván discuss the challenges facing black immigrants becoming Minnesota’s boss. Moderator of a community conversation to explore ways to overcome challenges.

Together we will:

  • Discuss their successes and challenges.
  • Find out what it’s like to be your own boss.
  • Learn about the values ​​that drive your professional goals.
  • Explore the economic and cultural environment for Black entrepreneurs in Minnesota.
  • Evaluate the resources available to business owners.
  • Advice for aspiring entrepreneurs on what they need to know to succeed.

The panelists are:

  • Beatrice Adenodi ACER Interim Director of Economic and Community Development
  • david manleyfounder and CEO of technology startup Juduh
  • Modo Wanda, Minnesota African Fashion Week CEO
  • Dr. Stephen Menya, Co-owner of Lions Gym & Wellness Center
  • tom beavis Owner of Pimento Jamaican Kitchen

The event will also give audience members the opportunity to engage directly with Minnesota’s Black business leaders.

Join us for a live community conversation on Thursday, May 30th at 6:00 PM in the Paradise Community Hall at the Capri Theater, 2027 W. Broadway in Minneapolis.
