SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Louisiana Economic Development (LED) will award $300,000 in grants to bioscience startups to support research and innovation in the state.
LED will award winning companies up to $100,000 annually for three years as part of its annual Startup Awards: Commitment to Health program.
The Startup Prize is a unique entrepreneurial education nonprofit program and competition based in Shreveport, Louisiana.
This business competition is open to health-focused entrepreneurs from anywhere in the world. For those who live outside of Shreveport, Startup Priority may be able to offer scholarships to offset travel costs.
Startup Prize defines an “early stage” business as “a business that is typically established within three to five years.” Annual revenue at the time of registration must not exceed $2 million. ”
Concepts eligible for the Startup Award
According to its rules and regulations, eligible concepts include health devices, medical services, treatment development, medical technology (web-based, app-based), nutrition, preventive care, medical devices, early-stage and late-stage drugs. According to a news release, the LED grants will include: matching Funding for annual grants received from:
- LSU Health Shreveport ($15,000);
- Greater Bossier Economic Development Fund ($10,000);
- Phillips Kallenberg Investments ($10,000) and
- North Louisiana Economic Partnership Agreement ($5,000).
