BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The 13th Annual Baton Rouge Entrepreneurs Week (BREW) has officially begun. BREW is an annual event hosted by local nonprofit Nexus Louisiana.
This event will be held from Tuesday, May 7th through Thursday, May 9th at the Mid-City Tower, 5700 Florida Blvd. in Baton Rouge. Local entrepreneur Kayonka Riggs said the event will bring many local entrepreneurs together to learn more.
“This gives us the tools we need to drive the business and develop the business. If we were struggling in certain areas,” Riggs said.
As the week of events continues, Riggs said he is looking forward to improving his marketing for the business, which he said will help improve the business.
“I’m looking forward to learning more about pitching and getting in front of investors and being able to say why my business needs their money and what I’m going to do with it.” Riggs said.
As for what’s special this year, Nexus Louisiana Community Engagement Director Natisha Nutt said this year’s event brings many unique opportunities.
“One of our headliners is the founder of Shazam, the app that sold to Apple for $400 million, who will share his wisdom and insights on how to take your business to the next level and keep it going. I’m going to come here to do that.’ That’s the same thing,” Nat said.
“There will also be a high-stakes pitch contest where one lucky winner will win a $100,000 investment prize,” Nutt said. “But that’s not the end. After that, they will compete in the Startup World Cup with his $1 million investment, competing against competitors and entrepreneurs from all over the world.”
Nutt said registration is still open for people who want to attend this year’s event and hopes it will give people a sense of belonging.
“I hope they sense that there’s a sense of community here. They don’t have to do it alone,” Nutt said.
