A teenage landscaping business that mowed lawns and plowed snow-covered driveways made enough money to inspire young Brad Chambers to become an entrepreneur. He used the profits to buy his first rental property and launch his business venture as a sophomore in college. Decades later, that company, Buckingham Companies, has grown into a large real estate portfolio that helped fuel Chambers’ 2024 gubernatorial bid after two years as the state’s secretary of commerce. “Although I was a determined student, I was not a natural student…and I am an experiential learner. And that was the basis of my life’s journey,” Chambers…
More than 92,000 electric cars were sold in Europe in January, an increase of 28.9% year-on-year, according to a report by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA). The four largest markets for EV sales were Belgium, the Netherlands, France, and Germany. The recent EV boom in the European Union can be attributed to plans for all new cars sold in the EU to be zero-emission vehicles by 2035. This is all part of the EU’s strategy to mitigate climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. “The direction is clear. By 2035, new cars and vans must have zero emissions,” said…
The easiest way to invest in stocks is to buy exchange traded funds. But you can do much more by acquiring high-quality companies at attractive prices. for example, Visa Co., Ltd. Iran’s attack on Israel was not a surprise, nor did it inflict significant damage. It was nonetheless a paradigm shift. This was the first long-distance, large-scale drone strike in history and the first time Iran attacked Israel directly rather than through proxies. The attack was a reminder of Tehran’s longstanding enmity and a call to reexamine our approach to the Islamic Republic.Iran’s hostility is not new. Some may have forgotten that in 1979, Iran’s revolutionary government seized the American Embassy in Tehran and held 53 diplomats hostage for more than a year. Since then, the United States and Iran have…
At The Path on Spring Street, the rosy-pink meat is joined by soppressata, burrata, sharp provolone and pickled Calabrian peppers on ciabatta. Dubbed “Such a Nice Italian Boy,” the sandwich features mortadella with pistachios, a nutty addition that some Italians say is a departure from tradition. be.Mortadella also appears on thin pies at Woodhaven Pizza, where the chef tops the pizza dough with shaved imported mortadella and fresh mozzarella. Mortadella is difficult to make, so most Charleston restaurants get it from elsewhere, including Woodhaven Pizza in Mount Pleasant and downtown Melfi. Melfi’s executive chef Ashley Kegu likes to buy…
After nearly a decade of developing what had become one of the most popular consumer mobile apps to call Denver home, Ibotta switched gears to focus on a different customer: big retailers. The company signed a deal with Walmart in 2021 to build the same cash-back and coupon technology Ibotta was known for right into the massive retailer’s own mobile app. Ibotta has since added more retailers in deals that have contributed immensely to the company’s bottom line. That move, apparently, led founder Bryan Leach to decide the technology, the financials and the timing were finally right to go public.…
