ArrowPoint Investment Partners gets backing from CPPIB, Temasek and Blackstone for hedge fund

Arrowpoint Investment Partners, one of Asia’s largest hedge funds launched this year, has secured investment from the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) and a unit of Singapore’s Temasek Holdings.
These investments follow Blackstone, which has already contributed capital to a new Singapore-based fund, according to Reuters.
Arrowpoint co-founder and CTO Ju Lee confirmed the company’s “seed backing from Blackstone, Temasek and CPPIB” in a LinkedIn post. Bloomberg reported on the funding, noting that Temasek-affiliated Seviora Capital was among the seed investors.
Arrowpoint, founded by Jonathan Shion, a former co-CEO of Millennium Management’s Asia division, has more than 15 portfolio managers and is due to start trading in July. It is also hiring staff in Hong Kong. Shion left Millennium Management in September last year, according to regulatory records.
Reuters reported in February that Arrowpoint had raised about $1 billion. The company did not respond to a request for comment.
Multi-manager, multi-strategy funds are popular among investors because they reduce volatility and diversify risk. Arrowpoint’s launch is expected to intensify competition for talent in the region, posing a threat to established hedge funds such as Polymer Capital Management and Dymon Asia Capital.
