Universities are engines of economic growth and today, more than ever before, support technological development, innovation and economic development.
The University of Texas at Arlington is beginning a new era in supporting student and faculty entrepreneurship with the launch of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology Development (CETD). The center’s mission also includes supporting the region’s vibrant innovation economy and will expand UTA’s engagement with public and private partners everywhere.
“CETD fosters a vibrant and supportive atmosphere for anyone looking to innovate, commercialize new technology or start a company to improve the North Texas community and the global economy.” said Paul Corson, CETD Executive Director. “Over the next few years, we will expand the tools and resources we provide to our campus and community, from education and networking opportunities to mentorship and startup support programs, to help grow exceptional and innovative talent. ”
Since joining UTA in September, Colson has focused on revitalizing UTA’s entrepreneurial support services. CETD’s new initiatives include specialized programs such as a series of workshops for the recently established Arlington Latino Chamber of Commerce and the relaunch of UTA’s Student Entrepreneurship Club.
CETD also began working with 101 Center Street to explore Arlington’s 1 Million Cups program. Community-based programs provide a supportive and inclusive space for entrepreneurs to gather and connect as they address business challenges and identify opportunities. Additionally, MavMarket, another campus-based project, provides applied entrepreneurial learning opportunities for student entrepreneurs to market and hone their products and services.
These new initiatives will enhance existing opportunities like EpicMavs, which connects UTA and the North Texas business community through expert speakers. A summer intensive program for entrepreneurs called Deep Dive. and a MavPitch competition where students can win startup funding.
