AUSTIN — The University of Texas Longhorns will be keeping an eye on some of the best high school receivers in the country this offseason.
Texas is in serious contention for three of its top freshman receivers in 2025, but it’s highly unlikely they’ll be able to land all three of them: Dacorine Moore, Jamie French and Karik Lockett. However, the University of Texas is planning to do everything possible to attract new players.
As reported by 247Sports, the Longhorns have recently formed a serious relationship with Lockett, a native of Saxe, Texas, who is currently the No. 4 overall WR in the site’s rankings. 247’s Mike Roach revealed that Lockett has built relationships with both players and coaches at Texas, a sign of an ever-increasing relationship between the two.
Lockett has official visits scheduled with LSU, Texas A&M and Florida State, but the Longhorns will have their final shot at him on June 21.
Saxe (Dallas) comes from the same town as former Texas star and NFL All-Pro returner Devin Duvernay, and the Longhorns have had success recruiting from that program before, so why not try again?
Lockett said in early May that Texas “will put (him) in the best position to win,” and with everything that’s been reported, it’s clear that it’s going to be a long wait for him to knock the Longhorns off the top spot.
“I know I can be successful when I go there and I know Coach Jackson and Coach Sark are going to put me in the best position to win and be one of the best receivers in college football,” Lockett said, per Jordan Scruggs of 247Sports.
Lockett caught 59 passes for 1,299 yards and 13 touchdowns in 11 games last season.
