Diners lucky enough to grab a seat at Virgilio Martinez’s fine-dining restaurant Central in the Peruvian capital, Lima, are treated to a tasting menu featuring exotic ingredients sourced from far-flung parts of the country.
Central was named the world’s best restaurant for 2023 by the prestigious “World’s 50 Best” list, and its extensive tasting menu features dishes inspired by Peru’s natural landscape, featuring exotic ingredients such as octopus, Amazonian fish, coca leaves, river snails, sweet lemon, crab and squid.
But guests attending Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s lavish wedding didn’t have to fly to Peru to taste the cuisine of Virgilio Martinez. The billionaire Ambani family flew in a world-class chef and his team to Mumbai to wow their guests. In fact, Virgilio Martinez designed an all-vegetarian menu for the Gujarati wedding.

The eight options include dishes like “Cashew Roll, Mountain Chimichurri, Fresh Cheese,” “Extreme Altitude Seed, Smoked Tomato,” and “Amazonian Cassava Texture, Coconut Milk.”

The menu sparked a variety of amusing reactions, with some people even being confused by the dishes.
“Everything is great but I don’t understand what 50% of the dish means,” one commenter wrote. “I just want to know what Pistachio Tiger’s Milk is,” another wrote.
“What do Indian vegetarians like? No paneer?” wrote one X user, while several others joked about the menu’s omission of Indian staples like paneer and dal.
Of course, Martinez was just one of several world-class chefs who catered the high-profile wedding, remembered as one of the most expensive in history. The guest list included many VIPs, including former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, reality TV stars Kim and Khloe Kardashian, wrestler John Cena, and Bollywood A-listers Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Priyanka Chopra.
News website Peru 21 reported that Martinez was in Mumbai leading a team of 13 people.
