Amazon has decided to remove its “Just Walk Out” technology from Fresh Grocery articles across the U.S. after a number of issues with its self-checkout system.

according to Report from information, Amazon has decided to remove its “Just Walk Out” technology, which relies on numerous cameras, sensors and 1,000 human eyes, from its fresh food stores across the United States. For those who don’t know, the Just Walk Out system is an automated system that allows consumers to simply walk into a store, pick up what they need, pay at a cashierless counter, and then walk out. It was promoted as the future way of shopping.

During this process, consumers are constantly scanned by sensors and cameras installed inside the store. However, Just Walk Out is not completely devoid of human involvement. Reports say that in India, he has over 1,000 real people scanning the camera feed to detect exactly what every patron is checking out. Additionally, these stores required high ceilings to allow for proper camera angles for maximum surveillance.

These stores have been sued in a New York state class action lawsuit alleging they collected biometric identification information without properly disclosing the information to consumers, violating the state’s biometric identification law that requires businesses to do so. , which also caused headaches for Amazon’s legal department. For all of these reasons and more, Amazon has decided to remove this technology from its Fresh grocery stores, which account for only half of the total number of Amazon Fresh stores in the United States.
